When faced with the decision to take a job, attend university or join a successful local rock band, Garry decided to rock. The pub scene in the late 80's and early 90's consisted mostly of live 4 - 6 piece bands playing covers and could be loosely described as a pre-tribute band era. "Stock Standard" was already playing 40 + shows a year and were regularly supporting big acts such as The Angels and the Radiators when Garry joined in 1988. He remembers long drives, cold motel rooms, an era of 1000-people-plus B & S balls in the remote outback locations, and small gigs in smoky barrooms in too many towns to remember...all in 3 short years. After 100's of gigs as a keyboard and guitar player, and having to copy many different musical parts, he developed, as he says, the ability to "hear and see the chord changes" and how they "fit". Naturally, he became obsessed with the idea of song writing and producing music, which soon resulted in a fully written and produced "jingles" in high rotation TV and Radio.

His real musical journey began when, soon after a chance meeting and tuition with Little River Band guitarist Steve Housden, he found himself enrolled in The Australian National University's Jazz programme. Having music theory, much live experience and a sympathetic ear allowed him to learn songs quickly and resulted in Garry becoming a local session guitarist playing in several bands at once, filling in for others, and fulfilling recording duties with local radio stations and producers. Garry's sympathetic playing, soaring solo's and precision timing has led to him being one of the most sought after Guitarists in the Canberra region. After a dream teaching appointment in Melbourne, and a brief sojourn for study in South America, Garry returned to his roots, family and friends in Canberra. His most recent gig was an extended residency at the Holy Grail in Kingston, ACT, with legendary 7-piece funk/world music/dance party band " Ragga Jump" led by local legends John Fogg and Genessio Serpi.

You will hear Garry playing Fender Stratocasters, Maton and selected nylon stringed guitars of many sizes through mesa-boogie and fender amps.
